PRESS RELEASE

Jim Hodges: silence stillness

20 February – 23 March 2018

Anthony Meier Fine Arts welcomes Jim Hodges' fourth exhibition at the gallery with an immersive installation of new work.

silence stillness forms the culmination of a trilogy of recent presentations by Hodges, completing an arc introduced with tracing the contours of our days (Baldwin Gallery, Aspen, 2017) and followed by turning pages in the book of love (Massimo de Carlo Gallery, Milan, 2017-18). In these exhibitions, the artist has confronted universal physical and emotional themes, obscuring the constraints of time to present an array of memories as if looking through a kaleidoscope.

Within a single gesture of reflectivity, the artist incorporates the entire gallery in silence stillness presenting an installation that assembles two monumental gold glitter paintings, a veiled gold arch, a series of rich floral paintings and a grouping of small ceramic sculptures that suggest vessels and the human body.

Hodges’ ability to conjure emotional resonance through the use of a spectrum of systems, materials, gestures and images is further developed in this current installation offering a body of multi-layered work that evoke such resonant themes as identity, time and mortality.
