Joseph Havel (b. 1954) lives and works in Houston, TX. Havel received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1976 from the University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN and a Masters of Fine Arts degree in 1979 from Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA.
Havel is a 2019 Dallas Art Fair Artist Honoree and the recipient of 2019 Brown Foundation Artist Residency at the Dora Maar House, Menerbes, France; the 2013 Texas Visual Artist, The Texas Commission for the Arts and Texas State Legislature; the 2010 Texas Artist of the Year, Art League of Houston; the 2008 Dallas Contemporary Legends Award; the 2004 Artadia Fellowship; the 1999 Cultural Arts Council of Houston Artist's Award; the 1998 American Institute of Architects, Houston, Artist's Award; the 1995 Louis Comfort Tiffany Foundation Award; the 1994 Cultural Arts Council of Houston, Artist's Award; the 1991 Dallas Museum of Art, Dozier Travel Grant; and the 1987 National Endowment for the Arts, Artist's Fellowship.
